Eurowings pilots' strike affected tens of thousands of passengers

Most Eurowings flights across Europe were canceled as a result of the pilots' strike . For example, only about 250 aircraft did not fly to Zurich and back.

The union is demanding that the carrier's management reduce the workload of pilots by increasing rest periods. For its part, Eurowings warns crews that they may be left without work if they miss their shifts.

On the first day of the strike, the airline said that about 240 out of 488 flights were canceled at the airports of Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin and Stuttgart. This affected about 25,000 passengers.

The same amount of traffic was not carried out on Tuesday. Wednesday — the last day of the promotion, it will last until 23:59 on October 19.

Meanwhile, Eurowings has told passengers that, despite the strike, it will fly about half of its customers on October 18 & 19, warning them to monitor the status of their flight.

The airline described the union's open protest as “disproportionate and irresponsible.

This is the second time in two weeks that Eurowings pilots have gone on strike. During the first, held on October 6, about half of all flights were canceled. As a result, tens of thousands of passengers have had to change airlines, take trains or postpone their trip.

On Sunday, October 16, pilots from SWISS International Air Lines (SWISS), also a subsidiary of Lufthansa, voted to announce a similar strike next week if management fails to meet their demands for better working conditions.

According to the official Eurowings website, all passengers whose flights have been canceled are entitled to compensation.

B in accordance with EU Regulation 261/2004, the passenger must be paid compensation in the amount of 200 euros for a canceled flight of less than 1,500 km. If the distance is between 1,500 km and 3,500 km, the amount of compensation increases to 400 euros. For a canceled flight on a route longer than 3 & nbsp; 500 km, 600 euros will be returned.  

Travelers will be reimbursed in cash, bank transfer or check, or if agreements are signed, travel vouchers or other services.
