The authorities in Bali continue to increase fees from foreign tourists. Not so long ago, mandatory fees were introduced in the amount of 25,000 Indonesian rupiah (a little less than $ 2) for visiting the three satellite islands of Bali – Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. In addition, recently the police have strengthened control over compliance with the rules of conduct on the islands. Decent fines are provided for violators.
And so, from July 01, 2023, new fees – 100 thousand ind. rupees from every snorkeler and diver. Anyone who snorkels or scuba dives in the marine reserve, in addition to the normal rate – for renting a boat and equipment, services of a guide and instructor – must pay an additional $6.5 special tax before boarding the boat.
Local authorities did not inform about this innovation in advance, so not everyone warned potential tourists that they would have to pay more. For tourists and organizers, this was an unpleasant surprise and caused a heated discussion. Many have abandoned their planned sea trips.
