How will the Queen's funeral affect air travel in the coming days?

The UK is preparing for significant flight schedule disruptions ahead of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on September 19.

The country's aviation regulator and airport authorities have already taken action to ensure silence over the center of London. Some flights from London Heathrow Airport were canceled so they did not interfere with the funeral procession on 14 September.

At least 16 British Airways scheduled passenger flights failed on September 14 after the UK Civil Aviation Authority imposed two significant restrictions on the rules for operating aircraft. This is a restriction on flights by airlines and drone operators below 2,500 feet — 762 meters — over central London between 9 September and 19 September 2022.

British Airways has warned passengers that further flight cancellations are possible during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which will take place on September 19, 2022.

Meanwhile, London Heathrow (LHR) has also made adjustments to the schedule for the entire period of national mourning .

The airport issued an outage warning and advisory to passengers on 14 September 2022, explaining that some flights had been canceled to “ensure quietness over central London during the ceremonial procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster- hall».

Heathrow added that September 18, 2022 at 20:00 GMT there will be a minute of silence, and warned that further restrictions and changes are possible in this regard .

«Further changes in the operation of the airport will be announced in full in the coming days. The procession with the coffin of Her Majesty to St George's Chapel in Windsor on Monday, September 19, will affect local roads around Heathrow Airport. Passengers traveling to the airport are advised to select alternative routes in advance.
