Latvia has extended the entry ban for Russian citizens until March 2024

For the first time, restrictions on the entry of Russians into the territory of Latvia were introduced on September 19, 2022; Russian citizens until March 4, 2024.

However, there are those who can still enter Latvia. To do this, you need to have one of the following documents with you:

– a residence permit issued by the authorities of Latvia, the European Union, a country of the European Economic Area or Switzerland;

– a long-term visa of the state- a member of the Schengen Agreement;

– a short-stay visa of a member state of the Schengen Agreement;

There will be no problems for family members of EU, EEA and Swiss citizens, as well as persons whose entry into Latvia is on humanitarian grounds, employees of transport companies and passenger transportation service providers, etc.

One of the first measures taken by Latvia last Saturday, June 24, was to suspend all types of visa applications from Russian citizens, including for humanitarian reasons. The latter have now resumed.

A similar entry ban was also introduced by Finland in September 2022, as well as by Estonia and Lithuania. Due to the current situation, the government is currently seeking to tighten restrictions on entry into Finland to prevent Russians from “finding loopholes” for travel to the country.
