Poland notified the Republic of Belarus about stopping the passage of cars with Russian license plates across the state border, the State Border Committee of Belarus reported on Saturday.

“According to official information received from the Polish side , from 00:00 on September 17, the entry into Poland of vehicles registered on the territory of the Russian Federation is suspended,” the department said in a statement.

They also clarified that, according to media reports, similar measures regarding cars with Russian registration coming from Belarus were taken by Lithuania and Latvia.

“At the same time, official information from neighboring countries in the address of the State Border Committee was not received,” noted the Civil Procedure Code of Belarus.

Earlier, the head of the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mariusz Kaminski, announced a ban on the entry into the country of any passenger cars with Russian license plates. The Polish authorities introduced such a ban for freight vehicles earlier. “Now, no vehicle registered in Russia, commercial or private, has the right to enter Poland, regardless of whether its owner is a citizen of Russia or another country,” he explained.

Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland have already introduced a ban on the entry of cars with Russian license plates.

Finland's ban on the entry of passenger cars registered in the Russian Federation came into force at midnight on September 16. Only EU citizens permanently residing in the Russian Federation, members of their families, diplomats or equivalent persons will be able to bring cars with RUS license plates to Finland, the country’s Foreign Ministry reports. In addition, exceptions on humanitarian grounds are permitted.

Cars with Russian registration already in Finland must be exported before March 16, 2024.

For bus service between St. Petersburg and Helsinki the ban does not apply.
