Today I propose to take a walk in Taiwanese supermarkets and see how much vegetables and fruits are worth on this island of rich and proud Chinese workers.
Going ahead, some prices might surprise you as they surprised me.
Let's start with cabbage, since I put it in the title.
A kilo of the most common white-finished borscht and cabbage soup will cost no less than 49 Taiwanese dollars, or about 200 rubles!
But Chinese cabbage is 25% cheaper – $ 35 or 140 rubles.
Cucumbers cost the same – 35 dollars/140 rubles. True, they are huge, as thick as a large wrist. And small, as we are accustomed to, lettuce, you can buy for 29 dollars/120 rubles, but, as you can see from the photo, everyone sold them out.
An ordinary potato costs no less than 59 local dollars or almost 240 rubles per kilogram!
Despite the fact that a kilogram of bananas will cost 3 times cheaper – only 19.6 dollars/120 rubles.
Even papaya is cheaper than potatoes — $55/220 rubles.
Onions and zucchini are cheaper than potatoes: 29 dollars for zucchini, 39 dollars for a kilogram of onions. These are 120 and 160 rubles.
After looking at potatoes, I expected the same skyrocketing price for apples, but no: $10 to $25, depending on variety. This is 40-100 rubles. Even cheaper than in Russia and cheaper than onions!
Let's see what's up with the prices of ordinary local fruits.
Dragon — $79/320 rubles.
Pineapple – 65 dollars/piece (260 rubles), oranges – 12 dollars /48 rubles.
Sweet cherimoya – 90 dollars/360 rubles. -tajvane-ef5f63a.jpg” alt=”Potatoes are more expensive than bananas, or how much is a kilogram of cabbage in Taiwan” />
