On Saturday, June 24, the deputies of the National Assembly of Vietnam finally approved visa concessions, which will also apply to Russians. The new visa rules will come into force in August 2023.
On June 24, the Vietnamese Parliament approved amendments to the Law on the Entry, Departure and Stay of Aliens in the republic. Starting August 15, 2023, the validity period of tourist e-Visas will be 90 days instead of the current 30 days, and the period of visa-free stay will also be increased.
For citizens of countries that have an agreement on visa-free travel with Vietnam, including Russia, the period of stay in the country without obtaining a visa is increased from the current 15 to 45 days.
The validity period of an electronic visa, which foreigners can apply for to enter Vietnam, in accordance with the approved changes, is increased from 30 to 90 days.
After obtaining an e-Visa, a foreigner will be able to enter and exit an unlimited number of times within 90 days without going through the procedures for obtaining a new visa.
Currently, an e-Visa issued to foreigners is valid only once. Vietnam issues e-visas to citizens of 80 countries, including Russians.
“Three-month e-Visa will meet the demand of foreign visitors for a longer stay in Vietnam, including to explore investment opportunities”, said Le Tan Toy, head of the NA Committee on Defense and Security.
Of course, the innovations will become an additional incentive for foreign guests to relax in Vietnam.
In the first five months of 2023, Vietnam received 4.6 million foreign visitors, more than half of the annual target of eight million, but still only 63% of pre-pandemic levels.
