Turkey has become the leader in the number of German Schengen visas received

Visa Statement procedures were made on June 5, and in it the German officials assured everyone that they did not use “special” strict measures against applicants from Turkey.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also commented on this issue, confirming the findings with statistics: in the first five months of this year, Turkish citizens were issued 40,000 more Schengen visas than in the same period last year.

Regarding the total number of visas issued to Turkish citizens, the Ministry informed: from the beginning of January to the end of May 2023, the German Embassy issued 100,000 Schengen visas and 18,000 national visas.

For comparison, in the same period last year, 60,000 Schengen visas and 16,000 national visas were issued, which is an obvious increase.

The European Union also recently denied allegations of restrictions on obtaining Schengen visas for Turkish citizens.

Thus, EU Ambassador to Turkey Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut said that EU countries do not use any policy aimed at preventing the issuance of Schengen visas to citizens Turkey.

He also noted that the EU is currently working on reducing waiting times and speeding up the process, stressing that delays are mainly due to high demand for Schengen visas and heavy workloads.

Even though Turkish citizens face visa-related issues, the data shows that Turkish travelers are the biggest Schengen visa applicants. They submitted more than 700,000 applications in 2022 and are expected to reach a new record level this year.

The highest number of Schengen visa applications in 2022 was at German embassies, consulates and visa centers , Greece and France.
