United to install next-generation Bluetooth TVs with 3D sound in aircraft

< p>The new TVs are equipped with 4K resolution OLED displays, which provide crisp and bright picture quality. What's not known is what screen sizes will be available in different travel classes.

All new TVs will support Bluetooth connectivity, so passengers can plug in their wireless headphones, including AirPods.

Panasonic specifically praises “immersive 3D surround sound”. However, it remains to be seen how it will work and sound once installed on the aircraft, especially if passengers bring their own headphones.

The system can output USB-C power up to 100W, which will allow you to quickly charge many devices, even the newest. No need to lug around bulky power adapters.

One of the most useful features of the new entertainment system is the detachable peripheral panel, which will allow the airline to quickly make changes to the equipment throughout the product's lifecycle.

< p>Technology upgrades are usually faster than aircraft conversions. Therefore, this will give United an easy way to upgrade without costly upgrade projects.

Starting in 2025, United will install this new entertainment and connectivity system on selected Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A321XLR aircraft.

All of these updates are part of the United Next campaign that was introduced in 2021. It includes an overhaul of almost the entire fleet of narrow-body long-haul aircraft to improve passenger service. Improvements include seat-back TVs, larger overhead luggage compartments, faster Wi-Fi and power outlets in every seat.

The airline has since installed its United Next lounges on new Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9. The first modernized Airbus A319 has recently started flying.

United's existing fleet of long-haul aircraft is already equipped with back-mounted TVs and power outlets, and completely different know-how awaits it.
